METS keynote: Ducati boss urges industry to embrace innovation challenge

 

Ducati CEO and former Ferretti boss Gabriele Del Torchio told a packed audience at METS that product innovation is the boating industry's major competitive advantage

“The night is darkest just before the dawn,” Gabriele Del Torchio, CEO of Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati, told a packed audience during his keynote presentation at METS.

Del Torchio’s line, taken from the Hollywood movie Batman and delivered at yesterday's Breakfast Briefing, succinctly captures the current economic mood and highlights, Del Torchio believes, the opportunities that now face the marine industry. The former CEO of Ferretti drew comparisons to the challenges that faced the iconic motorcycle builder back in 2008 as the global market for high powered motorbikes fell by 50 per cent, with the dark times now being endured by the boating sector.
